Some time in July we started planning the 4th annual boy’s only sailing trip to Phuket. 3 of us the first year, 5 2nd and 3rd year and this year we ended up 7 plus the cook and the captain, so it was good to have the extra room of the 47 foot catamaran, Chameleon.
Like last year we decided to take a cook with us. Smart move once again. Oy was fantastic and prepared 5 star restaurant meal quality for us 3 times a day. There is no going back to doing our own cooking after this. That's for sure.
We all arrived from various parts of the world on various flights. 4 of us arrived Sunday 8th and 2 arrived Monday 9th and went straight to the boat. We were suffering a bit from jet-lag, but still made it to Krabi. Wind right from the front, so used the diesel main-sail, so we were across the bay in plenty of time to stop for a swim Chicken Island. We over-nighted at Au Nang West and had to take a long-tail to shore.
Next morning headed towards Phi Phi and stopped at Hin Klang for snorkel and Bamboo island for lunch before mooring for the night in the bay at Phi Phi.
Third day was spent at Phi Phi Le where the movie The Beach was filmed and down to Ko Racha for snorkeling and diving before mooring on the west side of the island for the night.
Thursday morning came with good wind and we sailed to the south of Racha where we even caught a tuna fish. Kind of a struggle to pull in a 3kg tune when the boat is moving 8-9 knots, but with 2 of us pulling we got it landed eventually.
We then spent another day in Phuket than none of us remember too much about other than we discovered a fantastic kitchen appliance with some German fluid-dispenser. .
Al in all a fantastic trip that will be repeated next year.
